Collegiate Project Report - Ethics' Class Marco Liang
Until now, we have done a total of 2 projects in the class of Ethics; though, the one I will be talking about is the first one. That was a team project consisting of interviewing men and women from different age ranges their opinion on watching porn.
We interviewed different people inside a small colony and we got very diverse answers. Most men answered that they have watched porn before, while none of the women asked have consumed these.
Most women, if not all, agree that porn and its industry is disgusting and unhuman. It creates a false perception of sex meaning that real life sex is not like those videos. And because the industry abuses women constantly by objectifying them and devaluing them as a non-human being with no emotions.
While in men there is a double morality, most of them watch porn and consume it constantly, but when asked about their opinion in its industry and abuse, they often answer that they are against the industry. This leads to the double morality, they watch porn but are against its industry who makes these videos; meaning they are still consumers and supporters of the porn industry.
Porn is an unhealthy product, it creates a false perception of sex, especially to kids and teenagers, who already have knowledge about porn while being that young. It is sexist and abusive because of its acts of disguising the woman as an object in the films.
These topics are also taught in Ethics class, we have learned about racism, xenophobia, homophobia, transphobia, sexism, ethics, morality and more.
We have seen lessons such as the deportation of immigrants to Tijuana, history of racism, history of sexism and more. This subject is particularly useful to create a consciousness of what the “good” and “bad” is, according to ethics and morality.
